The response to the redesign prompt can be found on the the homepage under "Inspirations for this Site."
Redesign and Inspirations:
This assignment was a very long and difficult process for me. It took me a while to learn the basics of Dreamweaver and I had to make use of the lab times. I made several key adjustments to my first draft and now my website has a clean, finished look. Although it felt like a never-ending process, I learned a lot about the basics of website creation along the way and I know I made good use of the sources available to me. It didn’t come easy, but I feel like I have a whole knew branch of knowledge of website design and production.
My first draft of my website was very basic, with simple text and plain colors. I used the Dreamweaver font applications for the body text of my site because I wanted my information to be simple and readable. In my redesign, I used cooltexts.com for my headlines and this addition alone made my website more exciting. After this, I bolded the important subsets of my website on my navigation bar and made the colors of my site brighter. I also re-linked my picture citations to the websites that they came off of so that the reader would be able to read more about the information affiliated with the picture and not just be directed to google images.
There were many sites that I got inspiration from during the creation of my site. The first, L/Studio seemed very clean with simple font. I decided to use this in my own site so my viewers could easily navigate through it and I also made use of the top navigation bar like this site did. The second site I gained inspiration from was Twitter. Twitter is a very popular site and, obviously, there is something alluring about its design because it has so many viewers. After viewing Twitter, I decided I wanted to replicate its use of a fun and bold headline and this is when I decided to use cool texts. The next site I looked at was Design bombs. Although this site was much more creative and unique than mine, it gave me inspiration to add just a bit more personality to my site and make it a little less basic. If I had the time, I would want my site to look like the examples shown on Design bombs. Another site I got inspiration from was html5gallery. This site made me feel more comfortable about my own because its design was a little more simple and manageable.. The final site I gained inspiration from was the 10 Unusual Places to Get Inspiration From site. The s ection I focused on most was getting inspiration from stepping outside of the box and not forcing creative ideas. When I stopped trying to think of how to better my site, my mind relaxed more and I was able to think of special and personal additions to add, such as the dialogue near the headers and the interview with my brother, Sam.
Overall, I am pleased with my site and feel that I worked hard to make the finished product. I am excited to have it be published and to view my peers work as well.
